Paediatric Infection Hospital (Vinnitsa, Ukraine)

Paediatric Infection Hospital of Vinnitsa is a clinical base of Vinnitsa Medical University in the mane of Pirogov.
In the hospital there are 60 beds, it has 4 diagnostic department, air borne disease department, box department, department of viral hepatitis.
In the clinic there are some scientific research:
study of somatotype digital dermatoglyphics and blood antigents in children with acute stenosing laryngotracheitis
This work contains information about the role of hereditary factors in the origin and tendency of acute stenosing laryngotracheitis (ASLT). The criteria individual prognosis of hereditary predisposition to ASLT were elaborated. It was established that constitutional peculiatry of ASLT was low endomorphic index in all age subsets of patients. The risk of development of ASLT considerably increases in patients with erythrocytic antigens O(I), A(II), Rh(+), P(+), M and serous haptoglobins Hp2-1, Hp2-2, and their associations A(II)Rh(+)P(+)Hp2-2, O(I)M, O(I)Rh(+)Hp2-1. The reliable dermatogliphic features distinguishing ill persons from healthy ones were found. The prognostic criteria complex of hereditary
predisposition to ASLT was introduced in children polyclinics and infectious hospitals.

study of salmonellosis infection of young children
This research is conserning treatment of severe gastrointestional and generalised types of salmonelosis with ftorchinolon.

The growth of the number of cases of salmonella infection has been observed in Vinnitsa and in Vinnitsa region since 1995. 309 patients under salmonella infection were treated in Vinnitsa children infection hospital in 1995 till September, 1998. The specific gravity (weight) of the generalized forms of disease is growing. So in 1995 the generalized forms made up 6,8%, in 1996 – 11,9%, in 1997 – 7,6%, for the third quarter of 1998 – 25,6%. Among them there were mostly one year old children 68,3%. 20,1% were children from one to 3 years old and 11,6% were from 3 to 14 years old. The one months old children were ill the most often. All the cases are confirmed by coproculturation. Salmonella typhomureum is picked out among 91,8% of patients and salmonella enteritidus is picked out among 8,2% of patients. Among all age groups gastrointestinal form of disease had been met most often. But the generalized from took the highest place among one year old children. It took place among 30 children (15,4%). Among general number of examined patients 11 patients died. It was important that all the fatal cases were seen among one year old children. The gastrointestinal form was among 3 dead children and the generalized form, complicated by salmonella infectional meningitis, was among 8 dead children. In three cases meningitis combined with bilateral polysegmental pneumonia, purulent otitis.
Meningitis, as a rule, developed after the manifestations of gastrointestinal form on the 10th – 15th day of illness. It was characterized by the undulating rush, the absence of meningeal symptoms, pulurent changes of liquid.
For treatment of salmonella infection meningitis we use antibiotic from the group of fluoroquinolones (phtorchynolons) – cypropheloksacyn (on the basis of 10-20 mg/kg intravenously 10-14 days) and cephalosporyn of the third generation – cephtryakson (on the basis of 60-100 mg/kg intravenously during 10 days) and netilmecin (5-6 mg/kg intravenously or intramuscularly). We can get the assanation of liquid and the healing of all the patients because of application of these antibiotics.
Not a child had died in Vinnitsa children infectious hospital starting with june 1996.
